Venezuela Sanctions Extend Far Beyond Venezuela

Category: Blog - Denied Party Digest
Published: 08 May 2019

A recent update to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List highlights the importance of party screening for sanctions compliance.

On April 12, 2019, OFAC designated four entities and nine vessels under Executive Order 13850 ("Blocking Property of Additional Persons Contributing to the Situation in Venezuela").  The new designations were Liberian and Italian shipping companies as well as vessels linked to them flying the flags of Italy, Malta, Greece, and Panama.

Transactions with these parties now require an OFAC license whether in Venezuela or on the other side of the world.
